In 1999, approx. 8% of all enquiries to Technology Innovation were made by women: Technology Innovation could not help wondering why more women were not interested in setting up their own business. Technology Innovation knew that there were numerous innovative women in Denmark – women who would be valuable assets to the Danish business sector in the future. Therefore, the institute felt that perhaps these innovative women needed a gentle push in the right direction.

Set up as a project

The network was set up as a project by Technology Innovation, who believed that more women would want to set up their own business if they were provided with the proper guidance and a place to share common experiences.

The first step on the way to being set up as an official organisation was a conference held in Copenhagen in Spring 2000.
The main feature of this conference was networking and communication across differences.
The conference was spiced up with presentations of wise and innovative women.

Organising

After the conference, 16 lucky women were elected to take part in the further development of our network while being guided, coached and helped towards the final challenge 18 months later: setting up the Heroines of Tomorrow as a formal organisation in autumn 2001.

On 11 November 2002, we were set up as a formal organisation with the name: The Network the Heroines of Tomorrow. After the conference, Technology Innovation felt that our wings had grown strong enough for us to be able to fly out in the real world as an independent organisation.

On our own

We have been on our own since then, trying to improve the information available for the courageous women who wish to set up their own business and make a difference – not only in Danish society but all over the world

The objective of the network was to set up a place where innovative women could learn new things, exchange experiences, know-how and ideas, and help each other to overcome whatever doubts they might have in their own abilities as entrepreneurs, partners and people living in a constantly changing environment.
